What is Visual Merchandising?
Definition
Visual merchandising commonly occurs in retail spaces such as retail stores and trade shows. It is the activity and profession of developing the floor plans and three-dimensional displays in order to maximize sales.
Both goods or services can be displayed to highlight their features and benefits. The purpose of such visual merchandising is to attract, engage, and motivate the customer towards making a purchase.

The end purpose of visual merchandising is to aid in making a sale. Visual merchandising presents an image of whom or what the shopper can be when using the merchandise displayed.


It enables in converting a walk by shopper into a walk-in customer. Visual merchandising requires a combination of skills including creativity, artistic knowledge and understanding of store design. Color is a big attraction point in converting potential shoppers into customers.

Four key element :

- Store layout
- Store interior
- Interior display
Visual merchandising's main purpose is to attract and engage customers to buy products. Color, lighting, texture and order are design elements required for successful visual merchandising to display products and merchandise, set a scene and elicit emotional and physiological responses. Merchandise is arranged neatly and attractively, in a clean environment, with large, clear signage that communicates product, brand and price, communicates successfully with the customer. Colors, lighting, textural elements and arrangement to tell a story or set a scene enhance the communication in ways that entice the customer on deeper levels, creating a lasting impression and encouraging purchase.
